Drowningcircle Contemporary Fine Art

The lifetime project of my Art is Elementalism - a branch of Op Art specialising in the Analysis of Form and process in terms of a composition with Geometric particles or Elements. Elementalism though is an Art, not a Science, where the Artist plays with notional, and the notion of, Form and its Mis-apprehension; as when I deliberately fool the eye into perceiving what is actually not there. Think of the primary illusions of representation, as where, for example, a circle is perceived as a Sphere.

Elementalism is about Composition, in the way that music is. It is about the possibilities in the combination of Elements, from the ground up; I half jokingly say that ‘I write String Quartet for black line’. In the manner of our minds teasing out Form, my Works are if you like, ‘performed’ in the mind, when you look at them, as you might closely listen to music. That is to say, when you as the viewer, intelligently reassemble my visual clues and misclues! This is of course what we do when we recognise or misinterpret anything visual; it is simply the degree to which I ask you do this, that is fundamental to ’This intelligent Art’.

The three pictures I am presenting here are good examples of this. They all three use one basic design Idea, and are Developments of it. Namely that a series of Stars ‘skips’ backwards into a space, and a set of reinforcing lines project and define the Form of that ‘Volume’ in multiple or (Poly)-point Perspective.  If you are interested in my Work Please visit my website where you will find 30 Galleries, recreating projects and shows; with photo documentary; essays and Articles - www.drowningcircle.com
