No.2 in a series of Twelve

January 1999  -Redrawn for publication here August 2OO1.

I had always found that the picture I called No.2 in this series failed to live up to its fellows and including it here for completeness of the series sat ill with me, so I revised it. This is something I rarely do. My works are not ‘in progress’,  in flux as it were waiting to be given so more perfect future form. My Works express their moment. They could stay unfinished a while,  but my ‘language’ of shape, importantly syntactic and Not semantic, evolves and that is how they express their moment. If I constantly vacillate  over the finality or closure of any work I would never complete a work. Taken it to its logical extreme and since I am only interested in  the Ideal picture I should only produce one picture and maybe not even that. My August 2OO1 revision, I Contemplate 2a sympathetically overposes a Canonic  cloverleaf in a slightly bolder line. It is fixed by a 45 degree line linking 3 intersections and anchored on an existing central square. I then rotated the whole thing through 90 degrees. My revision is therefore not pastiche, as I write it was only 2 years ago but I think the progression and personal development here are important enough for me to note, that 2 years ago I could not have drawn this.
